I have been using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 BIT since the late summer and had no issues installing or play any of my COD games including the original COD and COD UO. I did a little research and this is what I found when I Googled your issue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, CoD2 works on Windows 7, but you can't install it like you did on XP: Open the DVD Drive in Explorer and double-click on setup(.exe).
When I played the game for my first time, it was a lot of lag, but later everything was like before.
I also had to start CoD2 in safe mode the first time, later you can change everything back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not sure if this helps you but maybe it can lead you in the right direction. Let me know how you make out.

you can also run it in compatibility mode. this will scan the game and run it in a mode that worked before. like xp mode. do a little research and give it a try.

This past weekend I upgraded my evaluation copy of Windows 7 to the real Windows 7 Ultimate. I had no problems loading COD2 under the evaluation copy but after upgrading I too had to open the disk and fire off the setup executable. Now I'm happy once more.

I thought Win 7 in XP mode took away a lot of the graphics? No 3D effects. Not true? I haven't installed Win 7 because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to play. lol

I purchased Windows 7 professional because I hate Vista so much. It's been sitting on my desk for a month because I have to do a clean install and now I'm scared to upgrade (I wanna play COD2). I plan on doing it when I'm home from work for a week, just to have the time to get everything running again. My question is, my p.c. could go to 64 bit, right now it's at 32 bit Vista, should I install it for 64 bit and what's the advantage? (stupid question?) Thanks.

Well first off 64bit shows all your memory, 32bit only shows up to 3gig.
I have 64bit windows 7 ultimate installed and havent had any problems with cod2 at all.

I have to agree with Sniper! I have a TechNet membership that gives me 2 free Operating Systems for any Windows products. So I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 BIT in July and it has run perfectly since I installed it. I have installed COD, COD UO, COD2, COD4 MW, and COD5 W@W........no I am not purchasing COD6 MW2 or installing it either. All of these games work without any issues. I think the way you are doing it is the way to go too, Jude. Clean install is my recommendation. I don't care what people say .....an upgrade usually always has issues. So go ahead and install Windows 7 64 BIT......You can upgrade your memory over the 32 BIT threshhold of 3.5 GB. Windows 32 BIT OS do not recognize anything over that EX. (you could have 6 GB in RAM but with 32 BIT OS it still only recognizes 3.5 GB) I think with a 64 BIT OS you can maximize it at 120 GB of memory......LOL.....now that I would love to try just for CHits and Giggles!!!!

Good luck with the install and keep us updated with your progress!

P.S. - If you really hate Vista then you are going to love Windows 7........they got it right this time. Very quick load time from the time you push the power button until the time you are ready to roll! You probably could use a sun dial for Vista!!!!

I have windows professional 64bit, maybe the ultimate has something that professional dosent. I know a couple other people that had trouble installing cod2. you can still install and play it but you have to do it in compatibility mode. I agree that it runs very well and i havent had any other issues with it. :thumb: :thumb:
